Glossary

Diegetic: Sound whose source is visible on screen.

Non-Diegetic: Sound whose source is not visible on screen or been applied to be present.

Ambient: Sound of surrounding area or environment.

SFX: Sound Effects.

Mood: Sound that sets the mood.

Tone: A sound that with reference to its pitch, quality and strength.

Genre: A category of music, marked by a distinctive style.

Theme Music: Music that introduces, develops and ends the film.

Voiceover: A narration/voice of God.

Music Score: Music written for film to create an atmosphere.

Synchronous: Sound that is matched with actions etc.

Asynchronous: Sound that originates from outside

Contrapuntal: Sound that does not match the visuals, Jux to Position

Silence: No sound.

Selective: Used to emphasis key sound.

Sound bridge: Use of sound to help transitions.
